2015 SPARK Summary

The SPARK Summer reading campaign concluded on Friday, October 9th with a jam-packed, fun-filled SPARK Day assembly deejayed by parent and PTA President, Nathan Lanning. Every Dilworth student and staff member received a SPARK t-shirt and a SPARK 2015 bookmark. Many lucky raffle winners received prizes including Panthers tickets and field passes, a brand new bicycle, Hornets tickets, gift cards to The Lego Store, Dick’s, Omega Sports, Ducks Donuts, Polished, tickets to see The Little Mermaid at the Charlotte Ballet, a FitBit, a shopping spree at Target, a brand new American Girl doll and four iPad minis - just to name a few!

We want to share some amazing statistics with you:
Our Dilworth dragons read over 38,000 hours this summer and we had 85% of students participating. That's 622 students! Of those students that participated, 168 read at least 100 hours. Of these 168 students, 24 read at least 200, and 10 read 300 or more hours! Our dragons raised $80,000 for our school. These funds allow us to pay for field trips, staff appreciation, yearly classroom startups, teacher discretionary funds and much more.

Thank you to Dilworth Neighborhood Grille for sponsoring our tally sheets and the hourly incentives. DNG is providing pizza parties for our ten 300 hour-club members!

We appreciate our t-shirt sponsors: The Nichols Company, Lawn & Mullinix Mortgage, Kumon of Myers Park, Dilworth Drug & Wellness, Towne & Reese, Appel Plastic Surgery, CottinghamChalk Hayes - The Tuck Team, Gerrard Builders, Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, and Mustafa Shah-Khan, DDS, SouthEnd Dentistry, and Elements Massage of Dilworth.

Finally, thank you to our prize sponsors: John Lowe and family for Panthers tickets and an amazing Panthers goody bag, Tina Parker for Hornets tickets and Hornets goodies, Smoothie King, Menchies, JJ Red Hots, Candy Girl Confections, Which Wich, Omega Sports, the Charlotte Checkers, the Charlotte Ballet, Toys & Company, Park Lanes, James Adams and UNCC for UNCC tickets (to basketball, soccer, and football games!), Park Road Books, BikeSource, and John Lowe/Activate Promotions + Marketing for their help with our fabulous SPARK t-shirts.

Lastly, we want to thank all the families and friends, and especially the students of Dilworth Elementary for doing a great job reading and doing math this summer and supporting SPARK.
